Our Association

Incorporated in 1970, CSHE originally included the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter which was founded in 1956, the Los Angeles Metropolitan Chapter founded in 1959, and the Inland Chapter founded in 1967. The San Diego Chapter was established in 1972, Central Coastal and Orange County in 1976, Central Valley in 1977, Northeastern California in 1980, Kings River in 1986, Kern River in 1989, South Bay Counties in 1991 and Redwood in 1992.

Currently, CSHE has over 1,100 members with eleven chapters statewide. The California Society for Healthcare Engineering, Inc. (CSHE) is the California chapter of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE). Membership is open to individuals actively employed directly in a healthcare facility or healthcare system or those who provide consultative, advisory, products or equipment to healthcare facilities.

The CSHE Board of Directors and the Executive Committee meet quarterly to conduct the business of the society. In its first five years, CSHE doubled its membership and the number of health care facilities represented, established the CSHE Annual Institute, quarterly CSHE News, and established a committee to review proposed codes and standards. CSHE members have held board positions in the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), including several presidencies, and are regularly requested to serve on various ASHE advisory committees.

CSHE has worked to establish health care facility engineering educational programs in community colleges, apprenticeship programs and through programs coordinated with professionals in the architectural, design and mechanical/electrical engineering fields of health care facility construction.

Chapters meet either monthly or bi-monthly featuring speakers on topics of educational value to the health care facility engineering field. These meetings also afford the opportunity to exchange ideas with other CSHE members on common health care facility engineering problems.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to serve as a resource for the personal and professional development of members, so that they are the best in the health care environment and qualified to address the unique needs of health care organizations.

Vision Statement

To be the preferred professional organization for the health care environment in California.

CSHE Meets The Needs

The increasing operational cost for a health care facility is related to its environment and equipment which is the responsibility of plant and biomedical personnel. Health care engineering managers have a personal responsibility to advance skills, awareness and knowledge to maintain a proper level of effectiveness and efficiency in the department. Membership in CSHE, a progressive management society, is an excellent means to that end.
