Director of Capital Projects

John Muir Health - Concord Campus

 John Muir Health is a three hospital system based in Walnut Creek, CA, across the Bay Bridge from San Francisco, CA.  John Muir Health has an opening for a Director of Capital Projects - Concord Campus. This person will have responsibility over all facility development activities including planning, construction, external relationship management, and city/state approvals for John Muir Medical Center - Concord Campus, a 259-bed acute care facility.  He/she will report to the Vice President, Facilities Development of John Muir Health.

 The ideal candidate will have prior experience managing large scale, complex projects from the master planning phase through the completion of construction for large medical centers/systems with a budget in excess of $200M (can be cumulative).   

 Additionally, this person must possess solid communication, relationship building, time management, and presentation skills.  The Director of Capital Projects - Concord Campus will be involved in representing the organization in public forums and presenting to the Board. 

 A bachelor's degree is required, Master's degree and knowledge of California seismic regulations is strongly preferred.  Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (CHFM) designation is a plus.

VICE PRESIDENT FACILITIES

Summary:

This position is accountable for the development, planning, organizing and directing of Facilities Management & Development for Sharp HealthCare.  Will accomplish goals by focusing on organization mission and bringing together and overseeing appropriate resources to develop and implement well conceived master plans, construction plans and renovation plans.  Responsible for the overall fiscal and administrative management of facility construction and   clinical engineering. Provides oversight of plant operations and facility maintenance services provided by a vendor. Provides leadership and professional services in the development and coordination of all capital projects.  Provides real estate and property management services.

Responsibilities:

Directs the design, development, construction, alteration or installation of medical facilities, systems and equipment.  Negotiates and administers development and construction related contracts.   Monitors projects’ progress and compliance with corporate standards and budget; selects architects and contractors; purchases real estate; procurers and installs major physical plant equipment.  Administrative responsibilities for facility construction, energy procurement and clinical engineering.  Oversees and directs real property related services, including property management and lease administration.  Ensures efficient, economical operation of facilities in compliance with all governing codes, building health and safety standards.  Brings together and coordinates resources necessary to accomplish complex construction projects. 

Qualifications:

·    Technical:  High level of knowledge, experience and ability in hospital and medical facility construction and engineering.  Additional knowledge of regulatory requirements at the City, State, and Federal levels including OSHPD regulations and related health care facility licensing requirements.  This includes, but is not limited to, a demonstrated competency and effective interaction with maintenance, remodel, and new construction aspects of all medical physical plant facilities.

·    Real Estate Transaction Experience.  Knowledgeable and experience with significant commercial real estate transactions including acquisition, development, leasing and property management.

·    Human Relations:  Effective interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with various personalities within and outside the Sharp HealthCare system.  Must be able to develop a means to keep others informed of progress on project and items that need a decision.  Ability to maintain a calm and responsible demeanor in emergency situations.

·    Administrative Process:  Ability to acquire approval by SHC decision makers for decisions that promote system-wide effectiveness.

·    Communications:  Effective and concise written and verbal communication skills.  Ability to represent organization in public forums in areas of expertise.

·    Education:  Bachelors degree in Health Care Administration, Public Health, Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration or other related curricula.  Masters degree desirable.

·    Experience:  Minimum ten (10) years of direct experience in similar capacity for a healthcare or medically oriented industry.
